What is it used for?

AI in the browser — how does that work?
This tool uses ISNet, an open-source image-segmentation AI model. Such models normally run on a server, but here the model itself (~24 MB) is downloaded to your browser and runs directly on your device.
That is why your photo never needs to be uploaded. The model is fetched once and cached; on recent Chrome and Edge with WebGPU, processing takes just a few seconds.
Tips for better results
The clearer the contrast between subject and background, the better the cut-out. Busy backgrounds or subjects that blend into them can blur the edges — photos shot against simple backgrounds work best.
Very low-resolution photos lose edge detail. Upload the original at full size for the cleanest result.
